Welcome to our English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) page!

English:
The ESOL program of Gadsden County Public Schools offers numerous opportunities to support English language learners (ELL) in acquiring English and achieving academic success. The program's goals are to provide educational programs that are equivalent in scope and sequence to those for non-ELL students. These programs offer resources to help ELL students enhance their educational experience. Teachers, parents, and administrators are given opportunities to learn new strategies to increase these students’ success in the learning process. The District's mission, "Putting Children First," serves as a driving force for the ESOL Program.

Home Language Survey
The Home Language Survey must be included in the school registration packet. This document should always be part of registration.
Screening Criteria
A student should be referred to our ESOL office for screening if the answer is “Yes” to any of the following:
  • Is a language other than English used in the home?
  • Did the student have a first language other than English?
  • Does the student most frequently speak a language other than English?
Submitting Home Language Surveys
To ensure students are screened, completed surveys must be submitted to the ESOL office once the staff has reviewed for qualifying responses.
Home Language Surveys can be submitted in the following ways:
  • District mail at Gadsden County School-ESOL Box
  • Emailed with an encrypted, password-protected format to: paec.gadsdenelloffice@paec.org
  • Faxed to (850) 627-9489
The ESOL office will review the home language surveys to determine a student's status for testing.  A staff member will contact the school to arrange a date and time to test the student(s).
Important Reminder
Schools Responsibility:
  • Provide the Home Language Survey to all students during registration
  • Screen the home language survey responses for qualifying responses
⚠️ Home Language surveys are distributed to all students to qualify and ensure no students are missed to receive the ESOL support as needed.

Dear Parent or Guardian,

Each year, students in English learner programs take the ACCESS for ELLs language proficiency test. The test measures academic English language proficiency for students learning English in our school and throughout our state.

With this letter is an Individual Student Report. This report provides information about test results for your child. This information is for you to review and keep.

Teachers in our school use this information to help them make decisions about instruction for your child. Teachers also use these test scores to monitor the progress your child makes toward English proficiency.

Please contact me if you have questions about the ACCESS for ELLs test. You might want to know:
- How do teachers use test results?
- What are the English goals for my child?
-
In addition to English, what else does my child learn in school?

Sincerely,

ESOL Department
Estimado padre o tutor legal:

Atentamente,

Departamento de ESOL
